Our Mission
The Walker Scottish Rite Clinic is committed to teaching two through six year-old children with speech and language disorders the communication skills necessary to succeed in school and throughout their lives. This goal is achieved through early identification and long-term therapy and by training parents to use techniques with their children at home.
Clinic History
The Clinic was founded in 1988 by Scottish Rite Masons and is overseen by a local 15 member board of directors. The Clinic is one of over 178 Scottish Rite Clinics nationwide with each operating independently.
General Information
The Clinic is a 501(c)(3) charity organization providing services to children in 6 locations in the Greater Saint Louis Area. Services are funded by corporate and foundation grants, special fundraising events, individual donations. The Clinic receives no state or federal funding, and families are never charged for services, regardless of financial status or insurance coverage. The Clinic is located in the Scottish Rite Cathedral in mid town St. Louis (Grand & Olive) and has been in operation for 20 years. All services are provided for FREE.
Services
The Clinic's seven speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are licensed by the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts and are certified in speech-language pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Hanen Centre.
Services provided by the Clinic include:
- Speech and Language Screenings
- Speech and Language Evaluations
- Individual or Group Speech and Language Therapy
- Audiological Screenings and Evaluations(limited to those enrolled in therapy programs)
- Parent Education and Training
Funding for The Clinic
The income for the Clinic's Operations for 2008 was $717,411. Since all services are provide free, fund raising is vital to serving as many children as possible. The following chart reflects funding received from various sources.
Special Events includes Trivia Night, the annual Golf Outing, the fall KidTalk Celebration dinner-auction, and other smaller fundraiser.
Individual donations include Tribute Gifts, Guardian Angels, Giving Tree donations, 52 Club memberships, appeal mailings, and general donations.
Sales include Holiday cards, Lucinda “little people” pins.
Foundations include grants from the Scottish Rite Foundation and several local foundations supportive of children’s issues and services.
